St. Cecilia's School

White class was selected to participate in the 2025 Science Blast in Simmonscourt at the RDS in Dublin this past Monday. The ESB Science Blast is a non-competitive educational programme for primary schools, involving the whole class. Science blast encourages children’s natural curiosity by asking them to investigate the science behind a simple question. White class investigated how we get beautiful colours in a sunset, by asking the question, Can you make a sunset in milk? A fun and simple physics experiment for the students using just water, milk and a torch. The students did find out through investigation and experimenting that you can make a homemade sunset in milk. While shining the light up through the side of the container, we saw yellow. The milk particles in the container scatter the light in the same way that dust and particles in the Earth’s atmosphere scatter light from the sun, giving a beautiful sunset. White class worked hard on learning the scientific process, investigating, experimenting and making our display for the event. Our judges thought our students did amazing with this experiment. White class represented St. Cecilia’s School well. They took part in engaging activities during the day and finished with a visit to Mc Donald’s on the way home. This was a wonderful educational opportunity for students as part of their SESE (Science) curriculum.
