St. Cecilia's School

Wow, what an incredible term it’s been for our amazing students in Red Class! They’ve come such a long way from the days of nursery rhymes, and this term has been all about exploring the world beyond the classroom. One of the biggest highlights has been taking full advantage of the wonderful new bus stop at the end of our road. It’s opened up so many exciting opportunities for us to get out and about!

Every week, we hop on the local bus with our Leap cards in hand (or some students paying with cash), and it’s been an amazing experience in independence and real-world learning. The confidence and pride our students show when they pay their fare or swipe their card is just fantastic to see! It’s not just about getting from A to B; it’s about building life skills, practicing social interactions, and navigating the world around them.

One of our favorite weekly trips is heading over to the Yeats Hotel in Rosses Point for swimming sessions. It’s such a fun way for students to stay active while also working on their communication and motor skills in a relaxed, enjoyable setting. And the bus makes it all possible!

But the bus isn’t just for swimming – we’ve also been using it to celebrate special occasions. Just recently, we had the absolute pleasure of marking a very special milestone: Colin’s 18th birthday! To make the day extra special, we took a trip to Four Lanterns, where we enjoyed some delicious treats and had a fantastic time together. It was such a joy to see Colin surrounded by his friends, smiling and soaking up all the birthday love. What a wonderful way to celebrate!

The sense of adventure, independence, and excitement that the bus trips have brought to our class has been truly incredible. Our students are gaining so much confidence in navigating their community, and we’re already thinking about where our next adventure will take us.

So, here’s to more bus rides, more swimming, and many more milestones to celebrate in Red Class! We are so proud of each and every one of our students and can’t wait to see what they achieve next!

Stay tuned for more Red Class adventures – the journey has just begun!
